Who is Alain Mallart ?

For nearly 50 years, Mr. Alain Mallart is an internationally renowned entrepreneur. He creates more than 100 companies in sectors such as transport, IT services, industrial cleaning, environment, etc.

In 1998, he sells his business and moves to Belgium with his wife for a well-deserved retirement. But finally his entrepreneurial spirit takes over and he embarks on new projects.

Then it’s the diagnosis: in 2012, Alain Mallart learns that he has Parkinson’s disease.

His entrepreneurial spirit and dynamism is not affected by this news. He is interested in the disease, its symptoms, its evolution, and patient follow-up. He reads a lot and meets many actors in the field of research.

He also remains very active professionally and continues to travel, listen to music, enjoy the art and company of his friends.

In December 2018, he and his wife create the non-profit organisation Action Parkinson. Action Parkinson is a patients’ association which, under the guidance of Professor Marie Vidailhet, offers Parkinson’s patients in the Brussels region the opportunity to meet and participate in various activities adapted to their pathology. Professor Marie Vidailhet is convinced that what Parkinsonians desperately need is to get out of their homes, see people and exercise.

Moving is a great medicine! Moreover, “50% of the treatment is medical or surgical, 50% comes from a personal effort to move and live in harmony with your illness!” says Dr. Jean-Emile Vanderheyden, neurologist.

The activities offered are very diverse: Nordic walking, boxing, gymnastics, Kinesiophilia dance, Argentine tango, Qi Gong, cognitive games such as card games or scrabble, singing workshops.

Taking part in these activities greatly improves the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s disease. In addition, thematic meetings and discussion tables promote the exchange of information and a better understanding of the disease in a very user-friendly way.

Alain Mallart is an example of a positive and dynamic spirit. He is not giving up. Better than that, he pulls his fellow men up!
