What we support & how
Why we support research
Parkinson’s is a complex and progressive condition. Changing its course requires long-term, well-designed research that goes beyond managing symptoms to understand the underlying mechanisms of the disease..
The Demoucelle Parkinson Charity (DPC) specifically focuses on disease-modifying research. Our goal is to support efforts that aim to slow, stop, or reverse the progression of Parkinson’s. By maintaining this focus, we ensure that every donation contributes to research with the potential for lasting impact, grounded in scientific rigour and realistic expectations.
We focus on research that seeks to modify the disease itself, moving from management toward a fundamental change in the future of Parkinson’s.
What we support & how
Our Two-Pillar Approach
DPC ensures that research support is selective and evidence-based through two complementary paths:
International Collaboration
We partner with the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support later-stage international projects.
Belgian Excellence
We place a specific focus on local expertise. By supporting projects in Belgium, we help strengthen national research capacity.
By combining local expertise with global partnerships, we ensure that every project we fund meets the highest international standards.
What we support & how
Investing in Future Scientists
Sustainable progress depends on the people who carry the work forward. DPC invests in the next generation of researchers to ensure Parkinson’s remains a priority for years to come.
We do this through two targeted initiatives:
Master’s Thesis Prize
Recognising high-quality research from young scientists taking their first steps in the field.
PhD Fellowship
Supporting doctoral researchers who commit several years to developing deep expertise in Parkinson’s.
Investing in young scientists is an investment in the long-term continuity of Parkinson’s research.
Latest Research News
We regularly share milestones and updates from the projects we support, allowing our community to follow how research evolves over time. These updates reflect the reality of science: a process of steady accumulation of knowledge.
