Masters student seeks Parkinson’s patients to study impact of osteopathy

STUDY OVERVIEW:
The Osteopathic Sciences Research Unit (URSO) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, in collaboration with the CHU Brugmann hospital, are interested in finding ways to get rid of musculoskeletal pain experienced by people with Parkinson’s disease, and more specifically low back pain. A pilot study (dissertation) is underway to evaluate the benefits of osteopathic treatment on disability and balance linked to low back pain in patients with Parkinson’s disease.

THESIS BEING TESTED ?
The focus of this study is to evaluate the benefits of osteopathic treatment on balance in a population with Parkinson’s disease experiencing low back pain.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? 
Anyone with Parkinson’s disease (H&Y score 1-3) suffering from low back pain.

WHO CANNOT PARTICIPATE?
Anyone who struggles with walking.

WHEN? 
February and March 2023.  The deadline for participating in the study is the end of March.

HOW? 
Random allocation to one of two groups for 1-hour sessions spread over 1 month:
Control group: 1 balance-testing session; 1 session of osteopathic treatment and balance testing
Experimental group: 4 sessions of osteopathy and balance testing
