Cell culture. Fluorescent microscopy. \u2026\u2026 ???<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These and many more scientific terms came up when the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity organized a visit for school students to a university laboratory earlier this month in the hope of inspiring a new generation of scientists to help find a cure for Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aged between 14 and 17, the students came from three different schools where they had organized awareness-raising and fundraising activities in support of Parkinson\u2019s research. Many of them are already interested in pursuing a scientific or medical career and so were eager to tour Prof. Dr. Peter Vangheluwe\u2019s\u00a0Laboratory of Cellular Transport Systems at KU Leuven. Vangheluwe and his international research team are investigating many diseases including Parkinson\u2019s disease and have received support from the Demoucelle Parkinson Charity for some of their research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demoucelle.sites-stag.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/230210_School-visit-to-KU-Leuven-lab_Feb-2023-10-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"- Demoucelle Parkinson Charity\" width=\"344\" height=\"258\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/inspiring-students\/attachment\/230210_school-visit-to-ku-leuven-lab_feb-2023-10\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13071 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>The afternoon began with a fascinating and engaging presentation by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/janeggermont\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof. Jan Eggermont<\/a>,\u00a0who teaches cell biology and physiology at KUL\u2019s Faculty of Medicine, about the main characteristics of Parkinson\u2019s and the specific Parkinson\u2019s-related research projects underway at the laboratory.
