Every patient is different, however there seem to be some typical \u2018early signs\u2019 of Parkinson\u2019s. These include:<br\/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The face showing little or no expression.<\/span><br\/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Arms not swinging when the person walks.<\/span><br\/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Handwriting becoming smaller.<\/span><br\/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Patients having difficulty identifying certain odours.<\/span><br\/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Speech becoming soft or slurred<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">With regards to movement, symptoms often start on one side of the body, such as:<br\/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A tremor in one hand<\/span><br\/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One foot dragging behind<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">If you think you or a loved one might have Parkinson\u2019s Disease, talk to your doctor who, once the diagnosis is made, can suggest the best treatment plan for that particular individual and their particular needs.<br\/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demoucelle.sites-stag.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Did-you-know_2_EN.png\" alt=\"- Demoucelle Parkinson Charity\" width=\"345\" height=\"289\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_2_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11563 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>\n<br\/>\n<br\/>\n<br\/>\nWhilst there are many \u2018typical\u2019 Parkinson\u2019s symptoms, every patient has a \u2018unique\u2019 version of the disease with their own combination of symptoms, their own progression of the disease and their own reaction to treatments. It is vital that patients are closely monitored and cared for by a specialist doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>\n<br\/>\n<br\/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demoucelle.sites-stag.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Did-you-know_3_EN.png\" alt=\"- Demoucelle Parkinson Charity\" width=\"343\" height=\"288\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_3_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11566 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every patient is different, however, some typical symptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Tremor.<\/strong>\u00a0Often begins in a limb e.g. hands or fingers.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Slowed movement.<\/strong>\u00a0Simple tasks become difficult. Steps may become shorter with feet being dragged.\u00a0 It may be difficult to get out of a chair.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Rigid muscles.<\/strong>\u00a0Can affect any part of the body causing pain and limited motion.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Impaired posture and balance<\/strong>. Some patients stoop and may fall.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Loss of automatic movements.<\/strong>\u00a0Unable to blink, smile or swing arms when walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst Parkinson\u2019s has a significant impact on movement, it does not prevent patients from exercising. For many patients, light exercise \u2013 such as yoga, pilates and tai chi \u2013 can even reduce the severity of some symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demoucelle.sites-stag.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Did-you-know_4_EN.png\" alt=\"- Demoucelle Parkinson Charity\" width=\"343\" height=\"287\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_4_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11569 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>\nEvery patient is different, however some typical symptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Sleep problems and sleep disorders.<\/strong>\u00a0This can include frequent waking during the night, waking up early or falling asleep during the day.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder<\/strong>, which involves acting out dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more you share your day-to-day problems with your doctor, the better (s)he can help you. Some problems might seem embarrassing to you, but your doctor will not\u00a0 consider them inconsequential or silly and (s)he might be able to diminish your concerns and provide some solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demoucelle.sites-stag.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Did-you-know_5_EN.png\" alt=\"- Demoucelle Parkinson Charity\" width=\"345\" height=\"289\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_5_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11572 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every patient is different, however some typical symptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Speech changes.<\/strong>\u00a0Patients may talk more softly, quickly, monotonously, slur or hesitate.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Swallowing problems<\/strong>.\u00a0 Saliva can accumulate in patients\u2019 mouths resulting in drooling.<br\/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Chewing and eating problems.<\/strong>\u00a0Late-stage Parkinson&#8217;s disease affects the muscles in patients\u2019 mouths, making chewing difficult. This can lead to choking and poor nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many of the motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson\u2019s disease, paramedical staff such as speech therapists, dieticians and occupational therapists etc. can help improve the quality of life of Parkinson\u2019s patients. Don\u2019t hesitate to discuss additional treatments with your doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_6_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11575 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_6_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11575 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/demoucelle.sites-stag.agency\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Did-you-know_6_EN.png\" alt=\"- Demoucelle Parkinson Charity\" width=\"346\" height=\"290\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.demoucelle.com\/blog\/charity-post\/did-you-know-find-out-more-about-parkinsons-disease-symptoms\/attachment\/did-you-know_6_en\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11575 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><br\/>\n<br\/>\nEvery patient is different, however many experience fatigue, anxiety, depression and apathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stress tends to momentarily increase the gravity of the symptoms of Parkinson\u2019s. Positive emotions on the other hand tend to momentarily decrease the gravity of the symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best thing you can do to support someone diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s Disease, or caring for someone with the condition, is to show empathy. Make them feel understood.
